Selective licensing?
Hello, I had a selective license that ran for less than 5 years. I now need to apply and pay for a new selective license.
I have been told there was a Court case that set out that my original license should last for 5 years.
Has anyone heard of this?
Thank you,
Chris

I have applied for them all over the country and had just one council that suddenly decided it was a 3 year term. That was Camberley. Everyone else in the country I have applied to is 5 years as per Gov website. How do they get away with it?

In Nottingham, it’s 5 years from start of scheme 1 Aug 2018 to 31 July 2023. If u apply for 5 year License now, you only get 9 months to 31 July 2023.
If you sell a house now, you get no money back & new Landlord has to apply for 5 year License & get 9 months. It’s a disgrace.

I sold up rather than go down the S/L road. £30,000 – unlimited fines + refund of a years rent to tenant should anything go wrong didn’t appeal to me!

Yes I think it was Southwark but I can’t find any tribunal or court decision to back this up. See point 9 on this blog https://www.castle-estates.london/blog/working-through-the-maze-of-property-licensing-in-london

The case you’re looking for was at the FTT. Iyawa v Newham LON/00BB/HMV/2016/004 which is mentioned in this document https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/833217/Selective_Licensing_Review_2019.pdf
