Right of Way and replaced passage door

I was wondering if anyone can help? I own a passage at the side of my house which next door have access to.
We have replaced a rotten old door at the end of the passage leading on to the street. We have the right to ask the owner of next door for money towards this improvement.
The property has tenants in and the landlord is refusing to pay towards the door saying that she only has to pay towards the upkeep of the passage not the door.
Any advice?

For the amount of money involved, compared to the potential hassle of making next doors owner pay up (with no guarantee of success), I would just pay up.

You had the right to ask for money but you didn’t. You should have asked them first and agreed with them the cost. You can’t demand the money afterwards. That said, if the cost is reasonable and it is stated in the document where it is set out, the neighbour might be liable. But for the price of a door it would probably cost you more to recover it.
