Readers question for building contactsWe are a Manchester based property company and are in the process of building a small two bedroom two bathroom house, which we would like to sell or let when completed.

Where can I find authoritative information, preferably free, regarding the cost differences between :

(1) 12.5 mm dot and dab plasterboard and skim and 13 mm 2 coat wet plaster finish.

(2) 22 mm t & G flooring grade chipboard and 22 mm timber t & G boarding .

Any help will be very much appreciated

Peter

    Hi Peter

There is a book available that is update annually that gives costs for all the activities you would ever consider when building and maintaining properties. It is called ‘The House Builders Bible’ http://www.amazon.co.uk/Housebuilders-Bible-Edition-Mark-Brinkley/dp/1905959443/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358857909&sr=8-1 and is always referred to in self build magazines. It gives info on things like cost/m2 for tiling and plastering. I can’t remember if it includes all trades. I would be surprised if it is not electronic by now. Not exactly free but at around £20 not too much to pay, tax deductable and might be useful for other things you are involved in.
