A big thank you to all readers that have donated so far to the fighting fund and I am delighted to report we have raised £781.

This has allowed us to purchase a lobbying database of email addresses for of all MPs, Lords and Baronesses. It allows us to send bulk personalised emails whenever we wish and the database automatically updates itself as people come and go from their respective roles. It’s a bit like a “mail merge” system which sends emails. We can even personalise subject lines, e.g. “Housing crisis in [merge MP constituency]”.

Dr Rosalind Beck’s comprehensive report on Section 24 of the Finance (No. 2) Act 2015: “the unjust legislation that will make the UK housing crisis much worse” has now been sent to all individuals on the lobbying database asking for their considered reply. Follow up emails will be sent next week and again soon after the Autumn Statement. Our primary objective here is to build a larger list of supporters for the “Axe The Tenant Tax” campaign.

Plan Of Action Phase 2

We want to communicate with every high level housing officer and centre of influence in local Government.

Why?

Because the homelessness problem is going to end up on their doorstep. It is the local council who are going to be responsible for the clean up operation when the Government war on landlords (read indirect stealth tax on tenants) takes full effect.

Ever since the Summer 2015 Budget a team of 14 academics, all regular contributors to the Property118 forum, have committed their spare time to researching the consequences of George Osborne’s tax policies on the Private Rented Sector. The vast majority of the research provided to “Axe The Tenant Tax” campaign has been presented by this group.

Our goal is to have Dr Rosalind Beck’s report professionally published and sent to every local Government officer with influence over housing policy. Educating those people is another route to putting further pressure on Government to re-think consequences of the tax policies introduced by George Osborne.

To achieve this we need to raise further funds.

The more money we raise, the more we can do.

We trust we can rely on your support?

PS – when you make a pledge please leave a comment below and note the amount of your pledge. It will encourage more people to contribute and provide an indication of the running total of funds raised.

Why not check to see if the councils have a landlord forum and get the forum landlord representtives to pass it to the relevant parties as from my experience they participate in the meetings as homlessness is a massive problem I can get it raise in Birmingham
We had had some success raise the issues of S24 with those responsible for housing but the housing councillor has changed so it back to starting the education process again

Hi Carol

That is exactly the type of initiative we wish to encourage. The starting point is to get Council leaders and housing officers to engage with us.
