Government sponsored moves to Spain?

Jerry, it is highly unlikely that you will lose your Polish tenants. There will of course be a deal in the fullness of time where our existing immigrants and likewise our expats can formalise their current living arrangements should they so desire. That's the trouble with Project Fear it seeks to dramatise and catastrophise every nuance. Like that puffed up civil servant who has just resigned - if you tell yourself the negotiations will take 10 years then they probably will ! No loss in my view as he was unlikely to be fit for purpose.

But that is precisely what large numbers of people voted for. Look at what Luke P wrote this morning: "vast swathes of this country are fed up with foreigners of any description coming in. If it means we go short on skills for a time, then so be it. Drawbridge up"

No doubt there were some bigoted brexiteers within the camp but not all. It's easy to point the finger at the worst extreme of views (which I don't agree with - I'm more the view of we are where we are - we've done well but that it is now enough). The politicians are mostly remainers or shy (cowardly) brexiteers - that will mean it is more likely to be a very gentle, possibly even ineffective brexit - your Polish tenants and mine (plus my Romanian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Bulgarian etc) - 99% of whom are excellent tenants will get to stay if they like. Just no more.

Your comment seems to suggest, Jerry, that you prefer foreign tenants. And what a utopia it would be if we could swap every useless indigenous person for a useful migrant. However, the useless natives aren't going anywhere. As much as it irks me, we have to deal with them. Adding more people (useful or otherwise), won't help our existing problems. Even hard working, pay-their-rent-on-time migrants consume services. If they're here for the long-haul, they'll end up in our care system as they age, but the indigenous population won't disappear.

Yes, experience has taught me that they make excellent tenants, even in a deprived area like Middlesbrough.

As regards useless Brits, we shall gain plenty more of them, old sick people leaving France and Spain coming home to the NHS once the reciprocal agreements cease.

How about we stop helping and encouraging our useless indigenous people to become so lazy?

Really we have to start accepting facts and saying that if new are sucking in this much unskilled migrant labour then unemployment in this country is effectively zero or even negative. If unemployment is zero we can't allow people to tick that box on the benefits form to say they have actively sought work. If they do tick it then surely that's fraud.

I'm in a fairly deprived area in outer South East. Round here there are loads of agricultural jobs going, warehousing jobs, factory jobs. signs up saying Lidl are recruiting starting at £9 per hour, Macdonalds, Next, Tescos all have signs up. All unskilled requiring no experience or education. But as far as I can see they are all being filled by East Europeans whilst unemployment (presumably our idle indigenous ) rises.

If we are all Landlords in the HB sector then we all know people like Wayne, one of my tenants. He has been unemployed for ages and he tells me he wants to work in a warehouse which is good. But he then says he wants to be the manager or something but he has no experience and no education. He then moans about bloody foreigners taking his job before drifting off to tell me about his next holiday he is planning in Majorca and that he has somehow got his ex girlfriend pregnant again. And then we all know Piotr from Poland, arrived in this country on Monday, spent a day looking for a job, found one and had started work by the Tuesday.

I'm sure I'm overlooking something but in my simple mind I think that if Wayne had done the job that Piotr took then Piotr wouldn't be here. We wouldn't have had the extra pressure on our housing and other infrastructure. And also less pressure on our taxes.

PS I'd still rather swap Piotr for Wayne.

Further to my previous comment. Re our own lazy indigenous population, how about banning the import of 'all' manufactured goods thus creating jobs here putting our people in work. Anyone refusing 3 or more job offers will have benefits stopped. Also, no job offers = no immigrants. Sorted! ? I've only had 2 experiences of EU people, both bad and cost me thousands, that's enough!

Unfortunately over time Piotr may become Wayne ! I am currently in the process of evicting an EU immigrant who has become so well settled that he now can't be bothered even to sign on let alone work. I even offered to return his whole deposit in cash if he walked immediately AND write off the arrears - cheaper than the next stage of eviction fees. His reply 'whatever'. He knows he's got month's of free accommodation before he has any worries - theft in my eyes but not the law. Disgusting state of affairs - this country is broken in so many ways. I've told the kids to pay attention at school as they probably won't want to live here when they get older. Mind you my wife and I already feel like this with the bashing we're getting from the govt at the moment.
