General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?
We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.![]()
Oops! We could not locate your form.
We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.
For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?
If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?
Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?
Which party would you least prefer to be elected and why?
Could not voting hand this election to Labour?

He was on BBC and he basically blamed the housing crisis on buy to let landlords.

It would be worth knowing a bit more about him – like his credentials for proposing policies about housing and tax (presumably he has none).

Just emailed this to Jonathan Bartley:
Dear Mr Bartley,
I watched with interest your comments on BBC Question Time last Thursday.
You said “£6bn a year is given to buy to let Landlords” Could explain where this figure comes from? As a BTL Landlord myself I can categorically state that I do not receive any kind of subsidy from the Government/taxpayer.
Is this £6bn from the Green Party 2015 Manifesto “Abolish landlord perks, such as tax deductions against a variety of expenditures, including mortgage interest relief. Ending mortgage interest tax relief alone will raise £5.8 billion a year.” and given The Green Party in its 2017 Manifesto is going to bring in rent controls. Can you explain where the 1.6m families, currently housed by BTL Landlords, will live? Because as sure as night follows day every one of those BLT Landlords will have to evict and sell-up as their business will be losing money.
I look forward to your response.
Regards

I can!
It makes Diane Abbott look like a financial genius.
Very rarely do I feel sorry for politicians attacking business.
Please make sure you are not driving or operating machinery when you listen;

And that is exactly the same policy the weasel Osbourne brought in which the supposedly pro-business, anti-Marxist, low tax, Conservatives still haven’t repealed…yet.

I sent his
Hello Jonathan
I am a buy to let landlord and property developer and am mystified by your comments and overall stance on my industry
I specialise in buying run down properties often shells not fit for purpose. Once I’ve spent a small fortune on renovating them employing numerous tradesmen I rent them to a variety of tenants from housing benefit, migrant workers or young professionals, all of which either don’t want to buy at that time or will never be able to buy
I then refinance the property and move onto the next one. I have never competed with a FTB and I am adding to the housing stock in this country. I would like you to explain to me how my finance costs are a perk it’s absolute nonsense it’s a cost associated with me providing the service and running my business it doesn’t cost the tax payer anything in fact I am saving the tax payer by housing people the council cannot saving on expensive b&b costs. Added to this the money I pay to the lender is taxed thus raising revevue for HMRC.
It is not the fault of our industry that successive governments sold off the housing stock and did not replace it, what sort of a mess would we be in now if the likes of myself and many others didn’t step in, yes to make a profit but it is ill informed to blame the crisis on buy to let it should be lauded not vilified.
Section 24 is plane wrong and will be a disaster I have incorporated and will crack on it’s the poor tenants who will suffer as many landlords will sell raise rents or go to the wall and what makes it more harsh is its retrospective nature pulling the rug on financial decisions taken in some cases 15 years ago it’s cruel and unfair
Finally can you explain why companies are exempt ?
Regards
Landlord and former Tory supporter

Great stuff. I wonder if he will answer. These meddling ignoramuses must be exposed as such. Whether he answers or not it is very good to pose these questions to him. In a distant part of his brain a little light might go on with the words emblazoned on it: ‘I should shut the fuck up about subjects I know nothing about.’

It’s scary that idiots with no knowledge can have a direct influence on our lives making decisions without foundation I have learnt a lot since that dreaded day in 2015
