http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0717tbt/bbc-weekend-news-28022016 is link to report (from 07:28 onwards).
The same landlord (Jaye Cook) also features in today’s http://www.telegraph.co.uk/personal-banking/mortgages/the-governments-buy-to-let-tax-changes-mean-i-will-have-to-sell/
And also at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3334304/Huge-stamp-duty-rises-rental-properties-second-homes-set-kill-booming-market.html from November 2015. In this article it says he invested £200k in http://www.propertypartner.co . I imagine such crowd funded BTL schemes as Property Partner may do very well out of C24…. So who knows, I wonder if that gives any clues to the answer to your question ‘who planted it’ Appalled Landlord?

I see that the data today’s Telegraph piece was provided by Property Partner. What a coincidence. I wonder if all 3 featuring the same landlord (that DT article, the DM November article and today’s BBC ‘report’) were actually all effectively advertorials?

Interesting video. Half my properties, those in a limited company, are professionally run and the other half, in personal ownership, are run by an amateur. Glad someone let me know.

Hi Mark
Jaye Cook’s involvement with Property Partner would explain his docility.
We can assume that the ditsy director from GR scripted her own contribution.
However the misinformation – about “generous tax allowances” in the news reader’s autocue and about the “tax advantages” asserted by Lynam – originated in the Treasury. I don’t think Cook could have scripted those bits.

Yes agree AL with the logic in your above 3 points.
Of the 3 participant players that you refer to, I think 2 words could describe all 3 in unequal measures: Spin and Delusion.

At least BTLrs gets 20% relief on interest payment. Where as I will not get any mortgage interest relief for the house I am currently lining in.

Nor do you pay 28% CGT on the increase in value when you sell your property. Comparing apples with pears does not help understand the issues.
