Thanks Kathleen. Do you have a link to that article? It’s starting to get reported accurately at last, which is good news. The smoke and mirrors can only last so long. In terms of impacts, we’ve prioritised that issue and have a whole submission dedicated to it.

Yes Jerry they probably would but they were being upfront about their intentions. This move by Conservative has been duplicitous and deceitful, putting hundreds of thousands of Tory voters offside. Indeed the voters have been betrayed! Had the Tories announced their intentions before the election they would have missed out on a tremendous amount of votes. They knew that so didn’t divulge their intentions.
Bu the thing that really gets me, the thing that is totally beyond any sort of forgiveness that I can find buried somewhere deep inside, the thing that makes me angry beyond all measures, is that they have stolen people’s pensions in this move.
The knew damn well that allowing over 55’s to access their funds would result in huge numbers withdrawing most or all of it to invest in property. GO taxed it on the way out and now he’s stuffed them with this. Many many of those people will not forgive our Chancellor for that. He will never make it to No 10.
Hell, as a lifelong Tory voter I am about to tell my MP he’s lost me forever (and my wife and most likely my daughter). Forget everything else, this one action is unforgivable and he deserves to burn in hell! Would I vote for Labour in the next election??? If it helps stop GO getting into No 10 then yes, you bet I would. He’s a pension stealing scum bag!

James they’re very unlikely to report on the current situation. Firstly these reports will have been written weeks ago, and let’s be honest, it’s taken most landlords an enormous amount of time to understand the implications of the tax change. Even now many are blissfully unaware of what it all means. It’s thanks to Richard Dyson that many have switched on to the impact it will have on their finances this weekend.
The message will be filtering through now. Slowly the corporate machines will be waking up to losing a significant and reliable slice of their customer base. Mr Osborne will be feeling their wrath before long.

Hi Connie.
Thanks for providing the link to the article by Richard Evans. I wasn’t aware of it. He is clearly Target number 2 now! (with Richard Dyson number 1). He can expect quite a few emails from us lot over the coming weeks – as he’s got it and he’s on board.
Petition has just gone over 17,000 – it’s been racing ahead today.

John, I’m from an ardent labour voting area in manchester. I always voted labour – probably more so because of family tradition. I built my property business through sheer graft and a huge amount of risk taking. I elevated myself into the so called hardworking aspiring classes that the Tories harp on about all the time, and in the last election voted Tory. This one policy alone has guaranteed that I will never vote for them again. It is truly shocking and disgusting to knock people back down who are trying to better themselves. Shame on them.

I’m the same Neil – brought up Labour and it felt a bit shameful to vote Tory – but I felt I had no choice as all the other parties had anti-landlord plans! The fact that the Tories promoted themselves as the only ‘pro-business’ party and said nothing about intentions towards landlords led us all to assume they wouldn’t bother us. The director of spareroom said practically the same to me in an email.

I’d say that the part of the North East I live in hasn’t seen any rise at all in the past 5 years – all my properties have seen a drop in value of between 20 and 30%, so I bet that the majority of the rise in value has been either between 2004 and 2007, or in London. So what am I “creaming off”? There are loads of small houses for sale, but they stay on the market for ages as FTBs can’t get a mortgage (I assume) or they don’t want to live in traditional terraces – that’s not my fault.

Ros
I cant find the article on line – it was an insert in the “Payback Time” called “as one fuels a new boom” in the paper version.
Richard Dyson is the first report that I have seen with an accurate description of the facts. Hopefully now with the circulation of this article – will wake up a lot of people to the seriousness of this proposal. Originally it seemed a very good idea to build up a private rental sector – now they seem to want to destroy it!
