association wessexDear Sirsassociation wessex

We had our scheduled committee meeting yesterday and it was agreed that we would help promote your action group to our members.

There were some questions that I hope you can answer:

How and who decides what issues the action group take on?

Is there any criteria to be met before a case is committed to?

There was concern that contributing landlords may not benefit if issues important to them are not taken on by the action group.

I will look forward to your response.

Kind regards

RESPONSE

Dear Rob

All excellent questions, thank you.

We take on Private Criminal Prosecutions where 15 or more of our members have been affected by the same crime. Naturally, this provides affected members to seek out and engage with other victims and to encourage them to join. There are exceptions though, here is an example of a huge case we took on despite having just six affected members https://www.property118.com/landlord-education/90316/

We will always seek to campaign on matters affecting landlords Nationally. If such matters require additional funding, e.g for a Judicial review, we will support fundraising campaigns, e.g. #TenantTax – please see this update https://www.property118.com/property118-action-group-latest-campaign-updates/90346/

We will support regional campaigns by publicising them, especially where we have strategic alliances in place with organisations such as your own.

Legal action such as litigation is expensive and highly risky. This is why we appointed Mark Smith from Cotswold Barristers as our Hon. Legal Counsel. Where 15 or more members are affected by a particular issue we will, as an absolute minimum, fund the cost of obtaining Counsels professional opinion. Wherever possible we will look for a no risk, no-win-no-fee opportunity. Here’s an example https://www.property118.com/will-skipton-building-society-settle-out-of-court/90174/

Based on the above, Property118 doesn’t to make any difficult decisions or to prioritise cases. Our criteria takes care of this and any litigation is driven by external commercial influences such as no-win no-fee litigation insurance underwriters who price based on risk based probabilities.

We look forward to welcoming your members on board.

All the best.

Section 24 Judicial Review – verbal pleading hearing set for 6th Oct 2016. If a judicial review is granted Property118 Action Group will contribute a five figure sum towards funding it. Mark Alexander could not put his name to the Judicial Review due to having just become a Tax Exile in Malta. The media would have had a field day with that. However, we were the first to report the problem and our Summer Budget article has had nearly 500,000 visitors and over 8.700 comments posted. We also recruited Chris Cooper into our tax action group inner-circle and he subsequently joined up with Steve Bolton to jointly put their names to the Judicial Review. Property118 Action Group tax campaign inner-circle also includes Ruhal Uddin who started the petition, many who wish to remain nameless and Dr Rosalind Beck and Cllr. James Fraser, all of whom have been staunch supporters of the lobbying, article writing and research associated with this particular campaign. We have recruited more contributors to the fighting fund than any other organisation to the campaign and if/when the Judicial review is granted we will make a bigger donation to fund it than any other group. All this from a fledgling organisation and this is just a fraction of what we do.
