Hot love horror for landlord insurance

Hot love horror for landlord

9:50 AM, 16th October 2014, 11 years ago 4

candlesOne landlord got hot under the collar when he received a call from his young tenants to say his property had burnt to the ground, because they had enjoyed an amorous evening.

They had been enjoying a romantic evening and once they had adjourned for ‘desert’ they forgot about the candles they had lit for dinner. One thing led to another… and the property went up in flames with the surprised couple lucky to escape alive.

Fortunately the landlord had full insurance cover with Property 118 partner CIA Insurance and rather than true love turning into a horror story for him, a call to CIA got his claim underway. He minimised his losses to the excess on his policy only. He was quite unsurprisingly thankful for his insurance cover and would recommend it to all landlords.

He may, however, think twice about young tenant lovers in the future though…

I heard about this claim when I was last down on the sales floor meeting with our Property118 landlords insurance team.

    Hi Jason,

Title aside …burning candles …typically against AST terms! Was this the case here, and if so, how did the insurer address it?

Well all fixed now then. But what about the loss of rent, reletting
costs and any increase in specifications required by Building Control.?
