The Liberal Democrats vow to ban no-fault evictions to stop the housing emergency.
In a video interview with Shelter, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey says far more needs to be done to end the housing emergency and help “renters who have had a tough time.”
Housing charity Shelter met Mr Davey in Eastleigh on the general election campaign trail.
In the interview, a Shelter spokesperson asks what a Liberal Democrat government will do to end the housing emergency in England.
In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Davey said: “We need to ban no-fault evictions, get on the side of people renting who’ve had such a tough time with rents going up so much.
“The Liberal Democrats are determined to tackle this housing emergency.”
In the Liberal Democrats manifesto, the party pledges to abolish Section 21 and reinstate EPC C targets.
Mr Davey tells Shelter the party will also build more social homes.
“In our manifesto, we are pledging 150,000 new council homes every year. That’s the way to tackle the affordable housing crisis, tackle homelessness and all of the many problems we know about the housing emergency.”

Sir Ed Davey is an educated man.
He must know that S21 is NOT a ‘no fault’ eviction.
He must also know that removing S21 will make the housing crisis worse. Beleaguered landlords will switch to holiday accommodation or will sell. The PRS will shrink and this will not ease the housing crisis; it will make it much worse.
The ONLY remedy is controlled population growth accompanied by intensive house building.
If government wants people to invest in house building, it would be wise to encourage the PRS to expand and remove some barriers to investment.

It seems he has plenty of advise and policies, even demanding the sacking of MPs for betting on the election date, but no advise or morals when it comes to his involvement in the Horizon Post office scandal, perhap he should follow his advise for every other wrong doer and resign, or be sacked by the
Lib dems.

‘help renters who’ve had a tough time’
Some while a government face, can’t remember the name said ‘the Government would like to thank landlords for the forbearance’ referring to the near total ban on evictions dvdn for the mostvegregious behaviour and prolonged rent arears during the sub flu mortallity rate plandemic, how much help did we get, insert expletive of choice.
Essentially they are all lying, this isn’t supposed to make sense, it is aimed at social destruction, it might be worth reading “The Nameless War”,,written by a long standing MP but imprisoned withoutvtrial for four and a half years.

Brave words from the Lib Dems. Neither of the main parties is suggesting they will build any social housing. The social benefit to pay the rent means that locally the housing associations are likely to make a loss after maintenance is taken into account. The pledge would require being backed up by a rise in housing benefit that could well reduce evictions as the poorest can’t afford the extra payments they have to find. Vetting possible tenants could become easier. There are good people out there who just have no money. They may be handicapped, abandoned or have been abused. Care picking and some may well get picked up by small landlords. I speak from positive experience as a small landlord of over 30 years
