Hello, Maybe this would work to help the BTL market to lessen the blow.
Increase the 20% tax credit to 40% but allow landlords just 30% and pass over the 10% to the tenant to reduce rent or pay for their energy bills.
Tenant happy, landlords get another 10% relief so they should be happy and its win-win for everybody.

That’s obviously tongue-in-cheek. Don’t you think that the tax system is complicated enough already? And don’t forget that the government is doing away with the Office of Tax Simplification. HMRC couldn’t organise the proverbial p!ss up in a brewery so they’d never be able to cope with this. But it’s a nice idea though!

So landlords with no mortgage on a property will have upset tenants who get nothing?
One tenant with a heavily geared landlord gets thousands, and others get nothing or a few pounds?
At least I think there’s probably a job in the Truss government for you with this sort of idea!

Some common sense maybe, from my wife Sue not me lol 1 x income tax band 10 per cent, If you earn 10k per year you pay 1k if you earn a million you pay 100000k,:}

A flat tax sounds great in theory. Everyone is treated equally and pays the same percentage.
Unfortunately it considerably affects the people at the lower end of the earning ladder in a negative way.
Someone earning £1mil will not be greatly affected by being taxed an extra £100,000 compared to above.
Someone earning £10,000 really really needs that £1,000 to simply survive.
That’s the difference.

paying 100k compared to 1k is a massive difference, imho and fair.Not forgetting compassionate capitalism, taking away the cost of cigarettes and drink how much do any of us need to survive as you put it IMHO of course lol xxx
