Hello, I’m considering replacing a combi boiler. However, in view of proposed changes in legislation regarding home heating that may (or may not) come into effect in the next few years, is now the time to reconsider what kind of heating system I should replace it with.
I am considering different options such as a similar boiler or a different kind of gas boiler. I have thought about switching to electric.
Do any Property118 readers have any other kind of recommendations?
Would welcome any comments.
Thanks

Agreed. A Combi boiler is unsuitable for larger homes [4-5 beds] and multiple bathrooms/showers. You need a System boiler with a cylinder of suitable size [often referred to as a megaflow].

As a current portfolio Landlord and a retired Gas Safe Registered engineer, I have to agree that the only replacement would should be a Combi with a 5 year or 7 year warranty from a standard manufacturer and no economy/budget models. Main is one of those and I have just to throw one out out at the end of 5 yrs warranty.Had to have it repaired more than 5 times in 5yrs and packed up just as it was out of 5 years guarantee
All others are very expensive to install and no savings on running costs to compensate for install costs

It’s a price I have just negotiated with our gas fitter. To be honest it doesn’t seem particularly cheap to me since out of that £2200 price , the labour would be around £600 – £800 ?, not bad for a days work and he does fit maybe an average of 1 per month and over 100 certs p/a. I believe he gets his stock from the local pochin merchants.
