They are saying they haven’t managed the property since the previous owner went into admin. Rent has been paid for the last month. Surely the tenants pay by DD […]

I have been reading your Landlord Tax Tutorials with great interest since the beginning of this year. The penny dropped for me in one of the latest articles and I think my accountants negligence has resulted in my husband and I paying £5,000 a year more in tax than we needed to. I would be […]

Hello all 118 readers. I would just like to ask anyone if they can point me in the right direction to go.  My sister-in law who is resident in South Africa, but is British, wishes to invest the proceeds of a windfall in UK property (about £400,000). Is there a reputable company she can use […]

I am constantly amazed at the poor service most accountants provide in terms of tax planning.  I’m generalising of course, but my experience is that around 90% of accountants simply accept the status quo and report information to HMRC on the basis it is presented to them. For example, my consultations often reveal that accountants have […]

Just received the following from Local Landlords Association (Devon); HMRC consultation on preventing tobacco duty evasion: property implications HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has published a consultation on proposals to tackle tobacco duty evasion and other excise duty evasion. This follows an informal consultation in which several respondents suggested imposing a duty of care on […]

HMRC Example; You purchased a buy-to-let property for £120,000 with a mortgage […]

My sister in law owns half of a pair of semidetached houses. Last year the property, previously owned by a college was sold to a property developer. They have told my family that the boundary is in fact in the wrong place, even though it must have been like this for over 20 years. They […]

What is your image of someone who is the victim of a scam?  Take a few moments to think about this before reading on. I am sure we all have the image of the gullible person with the street wise con artist slyly taking their money.  Well think again.  Research conducted by Exeter University and […]
