Mass appropriation of rental properties for asylum seekers?

So, what do landlords think of this latest initiative?

https://www.serco.com/uk/sites/serco-aasc/landlords

On the one-hand, the government are berating landlords for the rent levels which are linked to shortages in supply (read – failure by Govt to build), whilst on the other hand, available properties are being scooped up in contract-sized proportions.

What effect will that have on availability for current tenants, landlords’ customers seeking rental property (answers on a postcard)?

Where are so-called tenant support groups to stand up for those they purport to represent?

you might find that insurance companies ae fine with Ukranian's as they are free to works here, have a three year visa and issued with a NI number and basically deemed as a 'normal' benefit tenant.

Asylum seekers are not - which is why insurance companies make it very difficult to cover you (££££'s more) or refuse to cover you.

Let's fact it.....'positive' discrimination is irrelevant.... the LA and government just want everyone housed just to get the emergency accommodation bill down...

I do think that is a consideration; does it breach the terms of your mortgage and will your landlord's insurance cover you? But supposing...

1. That your mortgage company will cover you.
2. That you can get landlord's insurance that is not prohibitive.
3. That Serco (the tenant):
(a) pays the rent on time and in full
(b) ensures that the occupants look after the property
(c) takes appropriate action if the occupants upset the neighbours.

Surely these occupants would be lower risk for a landlord than benefits tenants? I have previously rented out to a corporate tenant (who decided who was to live in the property) under a license to occupy and they were fine to deal with. No problems at all. I'm not sure how it would work with an Assured Shorthold Tenancy or similar but I have an open mind about it.

Does anyone on here have any experience of Serco as a tenant?

Didn't this come up before and every LL condemn the ToBs and proposed tenure and onerous LL obligations like renewing a plumbing system if the loo didn't flush properly?
As to Government of ANY party, what's new?

Clearly, only government favoured companies with the appropriate exemptions are able to give asylum seekers any for of tenancy as mere mortals would fall foul of the Right to Rent hurdle (with fines for non-compliance due to be raised by something like a factor of 10 !!)

Generally I think the people who had experience of this seemed to think that you shouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I have no experience of this.
