NEW TODAY!

We have created a new section to recognise those who contribute most to our forums (questions and answers). Our Most Helpful Members

Questions result in answers being provided that educate a far wider audience than the person asking the question.

With this in mind we have added a new section to the Member dropdown of our Navigation bar called “Most Helpful Members”. The results will be ordered by the number of comments posted in the last 30 days so they will change constantly. Hopefully this will create competition for members to score high on the leader board (we appreciate this will take time) but the result should be more information and best practice being shared. This is our #1 mission and the reason for the existence of Property118 .

It is also be possible to sort the Members page by most comments of all time, members by joining date (ascending and descending) and those who have become sponsors of The Good Landlords Campaign (sorted by most comments left for all time). You will also see that there is a search to find member profiles by name.

Our objective is to encourage more people to comment and to check out each others profiles. We accept this will take time.

You will also notice that member profiles provide summary links to all comments made so it’s easy to gain a unique insight into what topics each members finds of most interest and where their specialities lay. This will be particularly attractive to our sponsors who will hopefully begin commenting a lot more too, they have lots of knowledge to share and everything to gain by doing so.

If you want to become a sponsor of The Good Landlords Campaign, or a upgrade to business membership so that you can add your contact details and a link to your website, simply edit your profile and you will see two blue bars at the bottom of the page. Click the relevant blue bar to upgrade – Good Landlords Campaign Sponsoship is a one off donation of £50 and business membership costs £150 pcm.

We look forward to seeing you appear on page one of our “Most helpful members” 🙂

I'm not sure about this.
It is quality we want, not quantity.

I see I have made the top 10, but I rate others more-highly, such as Industry Observer and Romain. I often shoot from ythe hip then find I am wrong!

Perhaps what is needed is a voting system for comments to reward quality and helpfulness?

Hi Mark,

I struggle to believe that too many would vote me into the 'most helpful' category.

For one time only...rofl

I will look into this idea as well.

As John says, popularity isn't everything, we might not like the answers to the questions we ask but it's good to ask and to get answers.

Quality is subjective. For example, if somebody asked, "is it still legal to let property in Southwark?" and somebody else replied, "yes but you may soon need a licence!" then we would all have different perceptions as to the quality of both the question and the answer.

Sorry John, I just couldn't resist that cheap shot! LOL 🙂

I like this idea in principle but I have just moved into the top 20 most helpful members by simply posting this comment....

I just wanted to make the point that what i like about this forum is the quality of advice rather than the quantity. Some of the comments offered are perhaps unqualified and in some cases, dare i say it superfluous. by the way i understand the irony of this post. 🙂
