Readers of Property 118 will be familiar with the catalogue of disasters, data breaches, Illegal licensing conditions etc which have bedeviled the Authority since the introduction of their Landlord licensing scam.

Nothing however could have prepared honest hardworking city landlords for the news yesterday, that the chief executive of LCC had been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and witness tampering.

Unlike Councils who throw the term “criminal landlord” about at will , I will not resort to such histrionics. The reality is that Fitzgerald, has not at this stage been convicted of any crime and remains absolutely innocent until convicted in a court of law. Let the arrest of this chief executive of a local authority be a wake up call for all councils and let these bodies stop using that disgusting term “criminal landlords.

The overwhelming majority of landlords are not criminals, just as the majority of council staff are not criminals and this Head Honcho is not a criminal until proven otherwise, despite having been arrested.

It would now appear that he remains suspended pending the conclusion of the criminal investigation.
I have been getting disturbing reports of Liverpool bullying landlords in to paying full licence fees, despite being entitled to discounts.

The sorry saga never ends with this avaricious Local authority. Good Old Liverpool City Council.

Where does this development leave landlords? I received quite demanding letters 6 weeks ago, paid for the 'proper' person check and have heard nothing since!

The proper person check was nearly 4 months long for me.

It gets a bit faster at stage 2

Should we be talking about a rogue Chief Executive?

I am a Landlord in Liverpool and i own properties also in surrounding areas and i must tell you that Liverpool are the worst council i have ever dealt with. They are just a gang of bullies. I would love to be a fly on the wall and see what goes on behind the scenes at the pathetic council offices !! Liverpool City Council really need to realise that they need us Landlords but more and more of us are moving away from the sector as everyone is against us at the minute.

It's the same everywhere. Have a read of this that happened local to me, which was sent around our landlords association today…over five years the pursued this nonsense, and all because they don't like to be wrong:

Then read this soul-destroying article on local government accountability:

Hi Gary,

I have received a rather intimidating letter today from Liverpool City Council (addressed to me even though the properties are registered in my sons name) 'inviting' me to a meeting in July about my non-compliance, to be conducted in accordance with the Police & Criminal Evidence Act -UNDER CAUTION!

This in spite of the fact my son has completed and paid for Stage 1 back in April which has been receipted and acknowledged by Liverpool City Council - we have heard nothing since!

When will this ever end?
