Communication issues to landlord via agent
Is it possible to ask the letting agents/landlord for all the information they hold on you through the freedom of information act?
I rent of a letting agents but I’m suspicious they are not contacting my landlord about things I’ve asked about (basic maintenance) which has been going on for ages, and now, a tenant in the building passed away 3 months ago!!
I enquired about the flat as it was in a better state than my flat and viewed it, said I would take it on as it is (just needed a damn go clean and freshen up).
The letting agent said they would get back to me after contacting the landlord, so after waiting a week I didn’t hear anything so I contacted letting agent who said the landlord wants to do it up. Fine fair enough, but the painters have been in there for a month and one of them let slip that the landlord was hoping someone would take it on and gave me my own name. Now everyone in the building knows I’ve enquired about the flat and I have not said a word to anyone!!!
I’m very suspicious the letting agents is not contacting my landlord over things let alone my privacy!
What do I do please, any advice?

I have had to interpret some of what you wrote and re-write it so I hope I’ve understood the gist of your questions.
Freedom of information request only apply to public bodies so you are barking up the wrong tree there I’m afraid.
You may be confusing this with a subject access request – see >>> http://ico.org.uk/for_the_public/personal_information but I can’t see how that would do you much good either.
By the sound of it you are frustrated that it is taking so long and you want to talk directly to the landlord. If that is the case then it is not difficult to find the landlords details and write to him directly – see >>> http://eservices.landregistry.gov.uk/www/wps/portal/!ut/p/b1/04_Sj9CPykssy0xPLMnMz0vMAfGjzOKNjSxMDA1NjDwsjM3MDTxN3dyNDUNMjQ1MjPWDU_P0C7IdFQG9k5Tz/

Hi Mark, i just think that the letting agents is not talking to the landlord not only because of my issues but as to what the other tenants have said aswell which is pretty much the same as me, nothing gets done… Thanks for your advice

One of the benefits of being a private landlord is that my name and address and phone number is stated on their copy of the tenancy contract so any issues can be discussed with me directly.
I receive very few requests from my tenants during the year and those I do receive are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Happy Tenant = Happy Landlord.

My contract / agreement only has his name, no address or phone number.
Just his name and the address of letting agents who has a bad attitude.

doing a search as Mark suggested through Land Registry should provide you with his address for a very small cost.

Hi all,
Just to update i wrote to my landlord about my repairs that i have asked for , for the last 2 and half years such as the windows and bathroom and damp and mould and other bits.
I finally received a letter from him yesterday saying:
“Thank you for your letter, I am not aware of the specific circumstance regarding your flat but will contact our agents …… who will be in touch with you in due course. Yours Sincerely.
So still not any wiser if the letting agents have contacted him or not.

Give it a week and if you e not heard anything from the agents start looking for a new property and write a second letter to your landlord to explain the situation.
