Does anyone out there know?….are we going to be able to claim mileage allowances still…..or do we fall into the category (business, non business, self employed) that won’t be able to? And when does that kick in?

My accountant writes in an allowance for operating my car rather than mileage . As far as I’m aware this is still a valid expense so talk to your accountant to get the best advice as to what suits the amount of running around you’re doing.

George Osborne’s own mortgage was paid by the UK taxpayer:

Oh look! An entirely new playing-field to level!

I’d also like an answer on this as one of my properties is a 150 mile round trip from me. Everything I’ve read so far has suggested that it will still be an allowable expense.

Thanks Darren…..I always claimed the 45p per mile, as like Worried by Budget one of my properties is 180mile round trip, which may happen 3 times in 1 month and then not again for another year.
I thought you could claim either way in the past, but not switch between the two….
I’ll speak to my accountant as you suggest.

was a really, really important issue to address. We assumed the
Government’s intention is for these to be starter homes for people and
not starter homes for *landlords*. In Committee, we did not get the
assurances we sought from the Minister. This is a straightforward
amendment, and we would like to hear how he intends to give us the…
So, landlords are no longer people….

George Osborne is just leveling the playing field… with the year 1705.
Correcting the unfairness of today’s ruling classes having to put up with oiks investing in property too, where once his historical forebears did not.
