    Hi Ros

    If the properties are under 250,000 I think it might be 1% but I share your concerns that he will come after the companies if he can. I also think the remaining 20% will go later.

    Yes, Shakeel. It’s 10th now out of 721. Not bad. And it won’t be long before it’s 7th. I think once we get more publicity in the press it could shoot right up. It’s therefore important that people write to newspapers – local and national – and also to letting agents, and any other groups you can think of. I find it’s really useful to give the link to the Telegraph article:

    And also the link to the petition:

    @Ros
    Every evening I see as to who is that we are going to topple next and set that as a target.

    I continue to spread the gospel on a daily basis not missing a single opportunity. This has made me realise that.

    a) Estate agents, Landlords, mortgage brokers & even solicitors are incredibly ill informed and lack the capacity to see the impact.

    b) GO, has spin this in a manner that population has not woken up to it.

    Next to topple is ” no confidence is David Cameron ” which inspires me to having a new one set up for no confidence in George Osborne.

    A chancellor that can come up with such a policy without consultation, changing the old basis/principals of taxation. Cannot me mentally balance.

    Just seen my former Letting Agent and his assistant manager explaining the consequences of GO proposals which they’ve agree to sign. I’ve emailed them the petition link and the PDF, and asked them to forward this to their other Landlords and to their Tenants.

    I’ve noticed that the PDF still refers to the mortgage interest being taxed, which I thought we’d agree to be changed to avoid confusion.

    Emailed the regional Director of Countrywide Residential Lettings plc with information about GO proposals and the petition.

    I’ve urged him to get their other Directors to use whatever political influence they have and to mail his out to their Landlords urging them to sign the petition.

    I just noticed this enquiry on another site:
    http://www.landlordzone.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?69974-BTL-Banks-not-lending-on-city-centre-flats

    The OP is having problems getting a BTL mortgage on a city centre flat because, although it valued up fine, it is deemed to be of no interest to an owner occupier when it comes to resale.

    This is interesting in the context of this discussion as it helps illustrate that BTL buyers are not always competing with FTBs – and that lending policy is actually encouraging BTL and FTB to compete!
