Jeremy Hunt has replied to me by e-mail last night 4/8/15. He has sent an e-mail to the Chancellor on my behalf.

Petition site back on. 7,733 signatures.
Thanks Mark for info on Jeremy Hunt.
And yes, Connie, ‘dire shortage of houses to rent’ will be an important angle. The proposal has been directed allegedly to help people own rather than rent, and is effectively an attack on tenants as well as landlords as we are in a symbiotic relationship with each other. There is quite a bit of anti-tenant rhetoric – we saw some of it on a comment yesterday – as though tenants are morally inferior to home owners.

Ros – from the information you have received so far can you confirm if all members of the Treasury Committee have received a letter from someone on this forum? The MPs on the committee are:

    Steve Baker
    Bill Esterson
    Mark Garnier
    Helen Goodman
    Stephen Hammond
    George Kerevan
    John Mann
    Chris Philp
    Jacob Rees-Moog
    West Stirling
    Andrew Tyrie

These will be the MPs who will scrutinise the Finance Bill at Committee stage.

Comment from Scottish Association of Lanldords today:

‘We are working with the RLA on this matter. SAL has not spoken directly with the Chancellor but the Government has announced that it would like to formally consult stakeholders on the detail of the measures announced in the summer budget and in this regard we are in the process of setting up a meeting with officials from HM Treasury. We will continue to campaign against the introduction of this change whilst at the same time proposing ways the effects could be mitigated in the event that the Government chooses not to retract their plans.’

    Hi BTL INVESTOR SCOTLAND
One way to mitigate this proposal would be to allow the Financial Costs to be deducted from rental income and if this means you are a higher rate tax payer ie. based on “actual “income – then restrict the relief to 20%. This would avoid all the distortionary effects the current proposal has.

I have made an appointment to see Michael Fallon MP on the 5th September 15. (Sevenoaks constituency )

I have e mailed him in advance and contacted his PA to request that he considers the content of my email prior to our meeting so that he can familiarise himself with the issues.
