Hi everyone,
After my first request to be exempt from MTD (Making Tax Digital) was denied, I was irked and I appealed.
I spoke ‘from the heart’, my utter frustration and anxiety came through without insulting anyone and I am happy to say I have now been exempted due to my age, not ever having had any IT training in my whole life, the anxiety of not understanding IT, and if I was forced to participate there is no way I am going to be held responsible for any error made from using a system I don’t understand!
So happily, after waiting for at least 10 weeks for the reply, to my appeal, the response arrived last Saturday, and I’m framing it, copying it, scanning it and saving it.
Best wishes to everyone,
Sally

Well done, you!
Had you filed your tax returns online before, or only submitted by paper?
Obvious question, I hope you can see why I ask it.

Is there a specific age beyond which one is exempt?

Yes, I file my own tax returns online, that is simply filling in the boxes – but I do the maths on paper and spreadsheet.

There shouldn’t be, it should be based on ability to cope with IT and accounting systems, but I’ll share with you I’m 71 years old.

The easy route to avoid MTD, where available, is to set up a partnership.
Partnerships and limited companies are exempt from MTD (and likely to remain so. I doubt if the government has the appetite for yet another round of MTD changes).

If moving from property in personal name to a partnership make you liable for CGT?

Sally, I still submit on paper thankfully.
I hate IT and like you self taught by learning from errors, lol.
Would it be possible to have a copy of your appeal letter please for possible future need please.
I think we can PM via Property 118 but never used it.

Generally, this would be for married couples and property already held jointly, just not as a partnership, so CGT is not an issue.
