Barking and Dagenham charge £900 per property for a Selective License!
Barking and Dagenham have increased their selective license fee 78% to a massive £900 per property from the 1st September 2019. No early fee discount either! This has got to be the highest charge in the UK to date?
Surely this can not be justified or legal? This is a perfect example of illegal profiteering by money grabbing councils.
Where are the RLA and NLA in this? I’ve not heard anything from them regarding this outrage.
No doubt other councils will follow Barking’s lead and dramatically hike their fees as well in the not too distant future!

Am in a state of shock over the amount to be charged by Barking & Dagenham. Although we have no properties in B&D, it needs to be seriously challenged. How do we go about fighting this?

Cornwall council decided their fee would be £1150 and the early bird discount was £999 I paid one before the deadline but needed windows in another property. Like they said clearly profiteering from landlord that are taking the strain off the council’s by providing homes, HMO’s or complete units. What would the council’s do if every landlord decided NOT to pay the licence fee? It’s not like they are going to provide a home for the tenant themselves if the landlord failed to get a licence. Absolutely shocking behaviour.
