Regulated Tenant dies with no known relative in UK
I have just been informed that a long standing regulated tenant has passed away. A friend of his called and with no answer forced entry with the aid of the police.
The tenant was a very private man in his middle 90’s. I have had a few tenants die in situ before but with relatives I could call upon.
Now you can see my position I have a flat rammed packed with the belongings acquired over about 40 years and with no knowledge of next of kin or contacts.. We are going to make the flat safe and secure, but where do we go from here?
Any help or guidance from my fellow landlords would be gratefully received.
Russell

From Tessa Shepperson of Landlord Law “If the tenant has no friends or relatives and there is no-one able to deal with the administration of his estate after his death, then an official called ‘The Official Solicitor and Public Trustee’ has the authority to deal with this.”
