Mark and his team are very professional and transparent.
We have obtained non-statutory clearance s162 TCGA 1992 using the BICT process. We would not hesitate to recommend Mark and his advisors they guide you through the process with very clear advice. Our accountant was also very impressed with Mark and his professionalism. We are now continuing to work with his team.
After a gruelling 3 year divorce I was left with 15 properties, 17 year old twins to support through University and the prospect of Section 24 on the horizon.
I had read about Mark Alexander's spectacular success in fighting West Brom and winning £27 million in repayments to landlords who had been overcharged. It was a truly magnificent result and benefited every landlord in the country who has a tracker mortgage.
I knew I needed help to restructure so decided to invest in a consultation with Mark. This was an excellent decision. Mark grasped my situation quickly, knew what questions to ask and is knowledgeable on the landlords ultimate trinity of property, finance and law.
My twins are now 18 and I have formed a partnership with them. I can choose how much profit to allocate to them to utilise their zero/basic rate tax band and keep myself in the basic rate tax band. In 3 years time I will be able to incorporate the partnership WITHOUT needing to refinance, WITHOUT paying SDLT and WITHOUT paying CGT. Magic!
In addition to this, the properties will be taken into the company at market value so if I want to sell any of them at that stage I can do so without any CGT.
There are also substantial IHT benefits to be had - which I am still getting my head round!
Mark is a genius and fortunately for us he's willing to share his ability and knowledge and for that I am very grateful to him.
I just wanted to update you about my progress with forming a partnership. Thanks to your advice and guidance I am just registering my partnership (with my life partner) with HMRC. I am delighted with the support I have had from Neil Barlow at Pacific Accountants and Mark Smith at Cotswold Barristers.
I had been daunted by the thought of the legal side but have been so impressed with the care and guidance I have had. Sometimes it is easier not to do anything for fear of doing something wrong - but I now feel I am moving forward and planning a stronger business.
A big thank you from me.
With Section 24/Osborne Tax/Tenant Tax coming up and wreaking havoc with my (and other landlords') hard earned wealth, I decided to take the plunge and have a consultation with Mark Alexander. He was responsive and helpful, quickly grasping my situation and giving me solutions - just what I wanted! I threw lots of questions his way and Mark answered them without breaking a sweat. Mark really knows his stuff and his ability to see the big picture and join up the dots is what makes him stand out. Mark connected me to Mark Smith of Cotswold Barristers and we are in the process of implementing the suggested strategies. Great service, highly recommended for every serious landlord.
With a portfolio of some 50 properties built up over more than 15 years of hard work, I had thought that the only solution to Section 24 was a rapid sell-off of most of our properties.
I am usually wary of paying for advice from ‘experts’ but having spent time recently reading much of Mark’s input to Property118 it is clear he is a genuine expert in his field.
I decided to sign up for his consultancy. The process was very professional with a detailed report on our specific situation followed by prompt answers and solutions to a lot of questions and problems I raised. He also pointed out a number of things that my current accountant wasn’t aware of.
I now have a good understanding of the partnership / incorporation process and am ready to move things forward.
Thanks Mark for all you help.
I am very glad I consulted Mark. My accountant had recommended a way forward to convert my business into a Ltd company but there were some major gaps meaning I didnt have a way forward. Mark has shown me exactly what to do and I am very excited that I now have a plan which will save me lots of money in the long run in tax .
It was with a certain amount of trepidation that I approached Mark for advice on the incorporation process. I felt duty bound to make him aware that this, for me, was far from a straight forward arrangement. For what in the past had seemed a sensible arrangement, I had included family members on the title deeds of various properties. Naturally these partners raised concerns but their questions ranged from highly technical, highly speculative, some totally irrelevant and some just plain stupid. All these questions were sent to Mark and to his credit he replied within hours with sensible informative answers. The breadth of his knowledge is truly impressive. It now transpires that most of these questions were just a smoke screen to their objection to the required changes. With all the information Mark has given I can proceed with adjustments to what otherwise would have been mission impossible.
I am a new landlord and as soon I started the purchase of my property the whole process started looking daunting as there were many obstacles that I had to overcome. Thankfully, a friend of mine referred me to Mark to guide me through the whole process. My tax was challenging on many fronts but in the first consultation Mark understood my problems and provided the solutions.
Mark and his team made the whole process so easy as if a weight was lifted off my shoulders.
The highlight of this process for me was a night at around 12ish when a tax related query would not let me fall asleep, so decided to drop an email to Mark to ask the question and put my mind at ease. I was expecting Mark to reply to me sometimes the next day but to my astonishment Mark replied after 5 minutes and assured me that the route he was advising would take care of my tax affairs and was in line with HMRC guidance. That gave me the confidence that Mark truly cared and took people's concerns seriously. I might have asked them hundreds of questions but Mark and his professional team have been more than happy to explain and ensure I understood the matter.
A big thank you for your help and keep up the hard work.
My wife and I own four BTL's as a partnership and were worried like most landlords here about the new tax rules. On Sunday I decided that it would be worth getting Mark's view so paid the £400 and uploaded all the info required. Mark replied first thing the next day stating that he simply couldn't recommend a more tax efficient structure for our property rental business and would refund the £400 (which he did 15 minutes later). We'd like to personally thank Mark for for his absolute honesty in fully honouring his refund policy.
A client of mine (I’m a Chartered Accountant) and I consulted Mark as part of a S162 incorporation. He, in association with Mark Smith, his barrister colleague, dealt with the pre transaction clearance procedure, drafted the incorporation agreement, arranged finance and generally provided proactive assistance throughout the process. Whilst we were familiar with the incorporation process itself Mark’s assistance with the Beneficial Trust arrangements which enabled the transaction to proceed was invaluable. I have no hesitation in recommending him and look forward to doing business together again in the near future.
