An announcement last night (8 August) has upended Tuesday’s announcement that Rightmove had severed ties with OpenRent.

The property portal giant has confirmed that the online letting agent has signed a new membership agreement.

Rightmove said: “Further to the announcement on 6th August, Rightmove announces that OpenRent has entered into a new membership agreement. Our guidance for the year remains as stated at our H1 2024 results.”

Public dispute over fees

This abrupt reversal follows a public dispute over fees that had led Rightmove to declare the partnership terminated from 1 September 2024.

Rightmove previously projected a 3% year-on-year membership decline due to OpenRent’s departure.

The UK’s dominant property platform, Rightmove boasts eight times more listings than its closest competitor.

More than 80% of online property searches occur on the site.
