Tenants are spending almost £700 on average making stylistic, temporary changes transform their living spaces, a study reveals.
The findings from Smart Energy GB reveals that 15% of renters refresh their properties in June and 37% of them spend an average of £700 on enhancements.
Renters are embracing inventive solutions to express their individuality such as removable wallpaper (16%), adhesive hooks for plants (17%) and wireless wall lights (14%).
Simpler tweaks, such as updating cabinet hardware (18%) or adding vibrant accessories (44%), also allow tenants to imprint their personality.
Some tenants even opt for removable vinyl flooring (18%) or adhesive tiles (16%) for a bolder statement.
A director of the firm, Victoria Bacon, said: “British renters are incredibly innovative when it comes to personalising their homes.”
Beyond aesthetics, energy efficiency is a priority for 28% of renters with 48% adopting LED bulbs (48%), selecting preferred energy suppliers (22%).
Also, 38% are installing smart meters to manage household consumption.
The emotional impact shows that while only 22% of renters felt at home when moving in, 60% do after personalising their space.
Adding favourite colours (32%), family photos (43%) or plants (39%) also boost happiness for 86% of those who invest in upgrades.

I give my tenants an allowance to decorate the property. All my tenants are long term and when they leave I will repaint the property and sell.
