Max Scott’s journey began in 2013 when he decided to spend some of his savings on a year’s property investment training programme.

Now his firm, Star Property Group, has a portfolio that has grown by £30 million in the last 12 months and Max is the managing director – and now the winner of the Property Investors of the Year award.

The award recognises individuals who have led by example and have made a positive impact in the property investment industry.

Max’s property adventure has been one of the tortoise and not the hare, he says. He first began buying investment properties including buy to lets, HMOs, and commercial and mixed-use properties.

Max has successfully combined a small property portfolio with a trading business and Star Property is now turning over £10 million a year, which has accelerated property investment.

The company now manages 344 tenancies across 227 properties. The main goal of Star Property is to improve its current housing stock and ensure there are homes for everyone that needs one.

The company prides itself on being a good and ethical landlord.

During the Covid pandemic, the company helped many small businesses stay afloat. They helped a business in Tunbridge Wells by writing off the rent for the time they were closed and supported them with reduced payments over the phased reopenings.

The group also helped families across the country during Covid with reduced rent payments and it is gearing up to offer the same support during the cost-of-living crisis.

In 2020, the company launched Star Community Housing CIC which helped provide a home for vulnerable adults while also providing them with day to day living support.

For the future, Max plans to launch the ‘Superstars project’ which will offer apprenticeships and entrepreneurship for young people from deprived and underprivileged backgrounds.

Alongside training, they will receive housing, life skills, and extracurricular activities.
