Private Pensions Could Help Solve the Housing Crisis

Isn’t it ludicrous that we can invest our private pension funds into ‘off plan’ Caribbean Hotel Developments but we can’t invest them into solving the housing shortage in the UK?

We have wealthy Greeks taking their money out of their failing economy and inflating London house prices by investing there and yet we can’t use our pension pots to invest into UK property. We are, however, perfectly entitled to invest into Holiday lets in Greece!

Billions of pounds are flowing out of the UK economy in the form of private pension funds investing overseas yet with a predicted UK population growth of an estimated 10 million by 2033 (figures via ONC) should we not be allowed to resolve our own housing crisis first?

The UK faces massive challenges associated with over-crowding and yet the Governments latest Housing Strategy made provisions for only the pathetic number of just 100,000 extra new affordable homes to be built over the next four years.

No I don't think it is sensible for pension fund managers to invest in UK property which is clearly falling.
