Hi all, I have unfortunately found myself in the position where I need to sell the house that I rent out to a young family. I served them with a section 21 notice 6 weeks ago and as expected they are finding it very difficult to find anywhere else. Only one partner working and also the fact that local rental values are significantly higher than what they’ve been paying with me.
They have been to the council and as usual, they have been told that they cannot help them unless they are homeless so I guess my tenants have no choice but to sit it out and wait for me to take it further. May I add, that they have no rent arrears at this stage and have always paid on time each month.
My question is having never done this before, is it straightforward to apply to the courts myself? I have the forms ready to send if they haven’t vacated by the end of the month.
All the relevant paperwork was given at the start of the tenancy and I have signed proof from them that they have received everything.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Ashleigh

HI Caroline – I can’t post my contact details on the forum unfortunately and I can’t seem to PM you directly for some reason. I’m not sure whether you can click on my profile and message me instead? If not, please visit the Landlord Action website and log a call back.

Many thanks everyone for all your advice. If I need to, I will definitely use an eviction specialist rather than trying to navigate the system myself.
Many thanks!

Hi, I’m in a similar situation and have opted for an eviction specialist. Best thing I ever did. Also a damn sight cheaper than a local solicitor.
