The survey of 160 agents by Goodlord, found that 75% of respondents doubted the government’s understanding of the sector’s challenges.
And 19% say they are uncertain, while just 6% believe the government truly grasps the intricacies of the market.
Goodlord’s managing director of insurance, Oli Sherlock, said: “Given the delays, confusion, and rotating cast of Housing Ministers over recent years, it’s no surprise to see that the majority of agents have little faith in this government’s grip on the challenges facing the housing and letting market.
“Landlords are under pressure, agents are contending with increasingly complex legislation, and tenants are fighting to secure homes.”
He adds: “All stakeholders deserve more joined up thinking and a long-term, bipartisan plan if we want renting to be done right.”
The poll comes after a lacklustre Budget where housing received minimal attention, coupled with persistent delays and uncertainty surrounding the Renters (Reform) Bill.
Goodlord says it is taking proactive steps by launching an initiative to gather insights from more than 500 letting agents.
The research forms an integral part of their ‘Renting Done Right’ campaign, aimed at advocating for effective changes from the Government to bolster the industry.
Agents are being encouraged to participate in the survey, ensuring their voices are heard.
Every day, landlords who want to influence policy and share real-world experience add their voice here. Your perspective helps keep the debate balanced.
