Letting Agent Fail: Advertising a Property That Didn’t Exist

It sounds like the plot of a scam, but in this case, it was simply a jaw-dropping example of incompetence. A letting agent in the UK was found advertising a property for rent that didn’t actually exist. The details were complete with glossy photos, rent figures, and even viewing slots – all for a flat that had never been built.

Prospective tenants turned up expecting to view the property, only to be left standing outside an empty plot of land. Some reported taking time off work and travelling long distances for the viewing, only to discover there was nothing to see.

The case highlighted serious concerns about vetting processes and professionalism in the lettings industry. While this incident was later explained away as an “administrative mix-up”, many tenants were understandably outraged that such a mistake could ever happen in the first place.
