Hello, Due to dates/times not quite aligning, I will be moving into a new property midway through the rental period on my current rented property (rolling monthly contract, no arrears or issues).
To save having to drive back and forward between properties to check on the empty rental and being liable for gas/electric/water, can I end my tenancy and return the keys early?
I am happy to pay the full month’s rent required, I just want to finish up with the current rental place and be done with it.

If you have both signed a contract, it is binding, so the terms of that contract apply.

I didn’t have much choice in the matter sadly, they refused to do anything different and I don’t have the resources to fight it legally while they trashed my credit rating for non payment of rent

You could try Citizens Advice. They may be able to advise you what you can do. Keep all emails and communications.

Judging from what you have said, you would not have needed to fight it legally but simply to continue paying rent under the existing agreement and there would have been nothing they could do about it.

That is something we considered, but they were threatening to add £20 a day surcharge plus interest on the missing rent increase and we could not take the risk in our credit rating being affected.
Decided in the end to cut our losses and start looking to leave and purchase a property, which is where we are now.
Thankfully I have found a very old phone number in some original paperwork for the landlord which still works and have contacted them directly. It turns out they did not ask for the rent increase (the estate agents insisted repeatedly it was at the landlords request) and have been unaware of all the problems we have had, they also did not want us on a rolling monthly contract but were never informed as to the reason for the change They are happy to accept the keys back earlier and are going to explore an alternative management company for future tenants, I have provided them with the email correspondence that may help with this.
I suppose all’s well that ends well, but I certainly hope to never have dealings with this estate agents again.
