Councils encouraging law breaking

It seems to be a regular thing that councils, with our money (tax-payers), are encouraging, even helping tenants to break their legally binding contracts.

It surely is immoral if not illegal that they do this to help massage their own housing list figures?

We need to start a campaign to highlight this, how do others feel about this?

If you feel strongly about this and are serious enough to do something about it then we need to talk. I am hoping to form a campaign group committee so if you are interested in becoming part of this crusade please complete the form below so that I can get in touch with you. When you complete the form an auto-responder email, set up by the clever people at Property118, will send you my email address and telephone number too.

By all means post comments and questions below too, I am interested in all viewpoints whether you wish to be part of the campaign group or not.Councils encouraging law breaking

Many thanks

You may have a poor opinion of Eric Pickles but if it's a Labour run Council which presumably Hull is he might be interested?

Replying to Jeremy's & Steve's posts I'm surprised to hear Hull have"ditched" Scrutiny Committees, not that they would have served much purpose in this kind of issue.

Ultimately the main scrutineers are the voters come election time. Will Hull though ever change its political colour? What all Councils do have is a Monitoring Officer whose job it is to field complaints about wrongdoings by the Council. Typically they handle plenty when an applicant or objector feels aggrieved about outcome of a planning application say, thinking officers/councillors have got it wrong. If that fails there is also the Local Government Ombudsman I recall.

If I were in your shoes I'd take this route while at same time getting local press involved. Sounds like a really good story for them.

...did you mean me Richard ?

It's quite difficult to muster the enthusiasm to put in 'freedom of information' requests, finding out about the processes, etc, when it doesn't affect me directly, but I'm sure the council are sending out these demands to more than just my friend, probably hundreds all over the area.
If it's hard for me, the people directly affected are probably depressed and find it difficult to live day to day, let alone fight a system they don't know how to navigate through (I have no idea !!)

Hi Alan
What has your response been like to this article??? I posted this link to my MP who I have fighting 2 councils on my behalf, I have just had to inform 5 tenants that they have to leave (not nice) & these are hard working tax payers but because of their situation at least 2 of them will have to give up work to go into council B&B which they couldnt possibly afford to pay as for some reason the council like to pay stupid amounts of money to these awful facilities, & they would sooner have people living on the streets or in squats rather in what has been their HOME for 3-15 yrs!!! I do not know if you are aware but there is a government ombudsman??? I really am not sure how it works but my MP has said that if he does not get the result he is looking for from the council then this is the route he will be taking, not sure if this would help in your situation, but keen to hear how much response you have had???
