Hi, I have adapted another rent increase letter I have seen on this forum.rent increase

I would rather not make it to lengthy so I have tried to make it short whilst still making relevant points.
Advice/Comments please before I send them out.

Dear ………………(Tenant)

We are having to review your current rent. It’s a decision that has been forced upon us due to a new tax grab introduced by the Conservative party called “Clause 24” and, as more people are becoming aware of this ridiculous taxation, it’s being known as the “Tenant Tax”. Please check out Facebook page: “Axe the Tenant Tax”.

As of April 2017 all private landlords are no longer able to class their mortgage costs as a business expense & instead this will be taxed as if it were profit received by the landlord. This is the only business type in U.K. that now gets taxed on borrowings & in some cases will mean landlords have to pay tax on a loss. Sadly, the knock on effect is most private landlords across the country are now forced to increase rents which, in itself, will only contribute in a small way.

Our rents have always been very market competitive and your rent has never previously increased since you moved in (date) / since (date).

Please find attached Section 13 notice advising the new rent details in full.
