Cabinet approves additional HMO and Selective Licensing Schemes for Croydon
After a recent consultation on the 25th March, the Cabinet have approved an additional HMO and Selective Licensing scheme for Croydon Council. These new schemes will come into force on 1st September 2026 and run for 5 years.
Croydon council have said the objective of both new schemes is to identify unsafe or hazardous property conditions and enforce required legal standards.
The new selective licensing scheme covers 14 of the borough’s 28 Wards, but the additional HMO licensing scheme will cover all of the borough.
Additional HMO Licensing:
Properties will now require this additional licence if it is a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) occupied by two or more people forming two or more households and not already covered under existing mandatory HMO licensing.

Selective Licensing:
This covers all privately rented properties occupied by a single household

- Addiscombe West
- Bensham Manor
- Broad Green
- Fairfield
- Norbury and Pollards Hill
- Norbury Park
- Selhurst
- South Croydon
- South Norwood
- Thornton Heath
- Waddon
- West Thornton
- Woodside
