Just for info. Joanne Christie who wrote the excellent article in the Telegraph on Saturday, sent me this link to another article she wrote – about the situation in Australia.

I made a paid Facebook add, linking people directly to the petition page, and set it to appear on the screens of everybody in the UK with virtually every property and landlord related interest that I could think of. So far it has cost me just over a tenner and obtained 96 clicks on to the petition page. This doesn’t sound like much, but I think it’s not a bad multiplication from just one person (myself) having accessed it. And I’m sure that of those 96, a number of people would have subsequently passed the link on to other people they know.
Anyway, my point is that if every landlord on Property118 was to budget a tenner and do likewise (each probably thinking of target audiences not used by other people), it may significantly accelerate the petition counter.

Can we tap into existing Twitter threads by using existing Tenants hash tags?
Is any one a Twitter expert?

I’m not, but having googled your question this premise appears to be correct. Do you have any particular landlord/property related hashtags that are trending well at the moment, which you could share here?
I have a twitter account that I have not used for a long time and will try to get something going with that too. From what I can remember there is a search function that can be used to find related tweets. Then from that we can start to identify good hashtags.

@Gareth
I’m not Twitter expert by a long chalk. But I’ve heard things about a package/service called Hootsuite which allows you to search for twitter feeds. I’ll try this out and see if I can find an active feed using things like #RentIncrease, #TenantRent, etc I’m not sure on how the search function works.

OK search several terms and #Tenants , #buytolet and #Landlords are very active but seems dominated by Landlords, Estate Agents, and Lenders. I’ll keep on searching.
Couple of interesting links were thrown up:

Hi Barry,
There’s harm in sharing the link on those hash tags though.
Landlords, estate agents and lenders are probably the most likely to sign the petition and the least likely to call us greedy, working-class oppressing parasites, in the way that some people do.

Hi Trendo,
Here is a link to a Facebook post that can be shared without your friends triggering a cost per click: https://www.facebook.com/NoTaxOnBuyToLet/posts/1659772980959131?notif_t=like
Here is a link to the petition page itself: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/104880
To make your own Facebook advert to draw people from outside of your friend circle to the petition URL, you need to click on the little downward arrow at the top right of the screen on Facebook and click Create Adverts.

This is a good idea. I’m going to try and find some software too to find further allies to sign and further share the petition URL among their own contacts.
