It’s long been a concern of landlords, even before the soon-to-be-overburdening Renters’ Rights Act, that the court system for housing is broken and set to deteriorate rapidly from May this year, when the Act comes into force.
In response to this, landlords and letting agents may be interested to know that a government petition calling for faster eviction processes and stronger protections for landlords in the private rented sector has already gathered more than 1,000 signatures.
The petition seeks to amend the law for landlords by introducing a six-week expedited court process for mandatory grounds S8/7A (arrears and anti-social behaviour), creating a registered-landlord database of court-evicted tenants, and raising the deposit cap to adequately cover severe property damage.
I would encourage all landlords and letting agents to circulate this petition as widely as possible.
View the petition here.

A faster court process for ASB will be of little use if left wing judges give the misunderstood little angels a second chance.

This is a really important petition and every PRS LL’ should sign up.
It may not have effect now but it will be referenced by other political parties in the run up to the next election.
In that regard it may inform future policy.
