Ben Twomey has announced his decision to step down as chief executive of Generation Rent after three years in the role.

He is set to leave the position this summer, with the search for his successor already underway.

Generation Rent has begun recruiting for a new chief executive, offering a salary of £68,000.

Timing feels right to pass on the baton

Announcing his decision to step down, Mr Twomey wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Leading the organisation over the last three years has been unbelievably rewarding, and I’m immensely proud of the change that we’ve achieved together.

“The timing feels right to pass on the baton, with the Renters’ Rights Act coming into force in England, and elections taking place to decide who will take housing policy into its next phases in Scotland and Wales over the coming years.

“While I’m excited about what’s ahead and look forward to sharing more in due course, I remain deeply supportive of Generation Rent and confident in its continued success standing up for renters across the UK.”

During his time at Generation Rent, Mr Twomey has been a strong advocate for tenants’ rights and repeatedly dismissed the landlord exodus, claiming “landlords can just leave”.

Voice of private renters across the UK

Generation Rent has now posted its chief executive role job opening, offering a £69,000 salary.

The tenant group claims to be “the voice of private renters across the UK” and believes “every renter deserves to live in a secure, quality, and affordable home”.

It adds that it is looking “for an experienced and compassionate individual to help us influence change and give renters a say in the decisions that shape their lives.”

going before the tenants feel the effects of his anti LL ranting!

GR will now have no choice (like Shelter) in focussing attention on the lack of social homes to rent. The effect of LL bashing (and the RRA they all pushed for) is coming home to roost.

Also this may have an effect on the May elections too,…..

So just like Shelter CEO, he’s getting out while he can plausibly claim RRB success and before the reality of what GR actually did has bitten tenants.

    What an insincere hypocrite..

Wow! another rat leaves a sinking ship. HE does know taht the landlords are leaving enmass and 2 years down the line, the tenants will suffer as a direct consequence to Ben Tooidiot rattling against the good landlords, just to show that he has been doing some work by talking nonsense and moving the mouse on his laptop. He will see the horrors of his work but will no longer be on a firing line.

I believe he is going back to play school.

He clearly has no idea about what happens in the adult world.

So Ben Twomey runs away just 5 weeks before the full implementation of the RRA and before the media can report just how many PRS landlords have evicted their tenants and sold up as a result…. For him I’m sure the timing does feel right to “pass the baton.”
