43yrs a Private Landlord. 4 evictions all for rent arrears via Sec 21. Have housed hundreds over the years. Always complied with all the regs. Kept rents at below market. Longest tenant 14 yrs. In 2015 had 16 rentals, now down to 5 and will be selling these too. Will take my money out of U.K. and make the best of what’s left of my retirement. The PRS has been carelessly destroyed.

I’m down from 16 to 4 and those that remain will be sold on becoming vacant. The PRS is no longer ‘worth the candle’!

The limited extent to which Sec21 has been abused is ‘very greatly exaggerated’ by Shelter, Gen Rant et al. The reality is that it makes very little business sense for any landlord to evict a tenant only to face heavy...

More ‘huge Gov overreach’ Fine fanaticism at its worst. Look at the fines coming up in the RRA . £7 to £40k plus. Business busting proportions and far more than many high end fraud or negligence cases. Inept in justice...

And what exactly is the landlord getting for this huge fee? Very few of these schemes produce justifiable results and criminal landlords continue to ignore them. Councils have ample powers but rarely use them to good effect. Licensing has become...

Not content in destroying the PRS and bringing misery to so many tenants in the process, they now want to destroy holiday lets too. Blind Marxist ideology is great at destroying valued and needed services.

Gov has no intention of improving the Court system. On the contrary they want to reduce evictions to a crawl. Gov knows full and well, that evictions must be curtailed because there’s not remotely enough rental housing.

Reply to the comment left by Reluctant Landlord at 14/01/2026 - 13:14Well, once the Corps get a foot hold and have driven out the independents like us, they may turn to supply ‘housing for the masses’ on the basis that...

This is a really important petition and every PRS LL’ should sign up. It may not have effect now but it will be referenced by other political parties in the run up to the next election. In that regard it...

SAL’s plea is commendable but won’t be successful. The Scottish Gov is ‘ ideologically wedded’ to lefty doctrine delivering inept housing policy that is hurting Scottish tenants. Scottish landlords best hope is simply to survive. Emerging again to pick up...

I agree they will ultimately have to back off, but only after the consequences start to heavily rebound on them. So things will get worse and the PRS will no longer exist as an option. Except of course, the Corps...

So far this has never happened to me. However this is a huge risk for all of us. The system is just plain wrong and must be put right. My sympathies lie with all those affected by this legal sham.

I would wager, she’s talking with the NRLA. So, we can’t expect anything supportive for PRS LL’s from that cosy corner then! Shelter have collapsed the PRS and the NRLA have ‘rolled over’ on every key issue, with the appeasing...

Reply to the comment left by Rob Crawford at 18/02/2025 - 08:56Completely agree. For most LL’s we’ve seen this coming for some time. I’ve been running down my portfolio since 2015. I’ve reduced from 16 to 5 and the remainder...

Reply to the comment left by Michael Booth at 15/06/2024 - 13:19Not if you can’t get your tenant out! Eviction bans and no intention to improve the utterly failing court system will be labours unspoken form of ‘sequestration’ .

We’re going to get a Labour Gov and the Cons still wouldn’t get close even if LL’s continued to vote for them. Reform are getting my vote.
