Angela Rayner has promised a Labour government will immediately end Section 21.

Ms Rayner claims the Tories “have completely failed a generation of renters” by not passing the Renters (Reform) Bill.

Housing charity Shelter met Ms Rayner in Darlington on the general election campaign trail.

Labour will immediately end no-fault evictions

The Renters (Reform) Bill failed to pass before the general election despite the Labour party claiming they would have supported it.

In the interview, a Shelter spokesperson asks what a Labour government will do to end the housing emergency in England.

In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, Ms Rayner said: “The Tories have completely failed a generation of renters and people who need a home.

“Homelessness has got worse under the Tories. Labour will immediately end no-fault evictions which the Tories promised and never delivered.”

We’ll build more social homes

Ms Rayner also claims a Labour government will build more social homes.

She adds: “We’ll build 1.5 million homes which will include social homes, so we have the homes we need for the future. We’ll push developers in their 106 notices to get the infrastructure and the social housing we need as part of those developments.”

The full video interview with Shelter can be seen below. Property118 has contacted the Conservative party for comment.

I will be voting for Rishi to stop these muppets getting in. The better the devil you know or the lesser of the two evils. I was reading Labout may increase capital gains tax on selling properties in the autumn budget if they get in. I await to see miracles with improving public services and the NHS if they get elected.

I could not live with myself if I voted for anyone/anything that is evil.

Lesser of the two evils still leaves at least one evil.

My ballot paper will read “None of the above”.

What a waste. Why not vote Reform?

Surely Reform is a vote for Labour. Or am I missing something.

If, in your constituency, Labour is going to get in anyway or you’re considering spoiling your ballot paper, at least voting Reform will indicate your support – which will make a difference in 4-5 years time.

It is not a waste. Nor is it “spoiling” my paper.

All ballot forms are counted and endorsements noted including comments.

I am exercising my right to vote as indicated – not “spoiling” my voting right as suggested.

Not voting at all is quite another matter.

I doubt that she could immediately ban it, for a start there would have to be a notification period to landlords as yo how the new S8 would work. So you would be looking at at least 3 months grace, time to allow start up of a few more S21’s

Shelter, together with the fatuous Michael Gove, is itself responsible for the homelessness crisis. By demonising and alienating landlords, Shelter has driven many landlords from the sector, accelerating the rate of Section 21 notices and reducing the number of homes available in the PRS.
Landlords mainly provide decent homes for people, a worthy public service . Why should landlords be vilified and abused by people who provide no accommodation at all?

Reply to the comment left by Stella at 05/06/2024 – 11:104 of my houses are in Rayner’s constuency of Ashton Under Lyne. I’m coming up to retirement, and with section 21 going, it could be a tall order to sell up and get out. The worry is obviously that the new section 8 grounds, where selling up unconditionally was possible, will be changed unfavourably. What can we do? We don’t know what will come out, but fast tracking section 21 abolishion with more leglislation ” to follow” is extremely worrying.
Further, my Victorian terrace houses are EPC Ds and Es. Costly reconstruction work is required and the catch22 is tenants can’t be in place whilst ongoing, and we can’t evict. Tenant objection to work letter will probably still be an option, but it could be provision of temp accomodation, at landlord’s cost! 4 star hotel ??
