Is this government worse than useless for tracking landlord numbers?

Landlords facing rows of rental houses with “To Let” signs while question marks hover overhead

The government has admitted it doesn’t collect data on landlord numbers exiting the market.

This most basic of counters, neglected, the one that points to whether renters have the basic right to home availability. The most worrying thing is that when it’s brought to their attention, they dismiss it. This blatant course to failure is tantamount to the security forces leaving a bag of guns on the streets of London when your job is ‘Whatever you do, look after the guns’?

Whilst we, as landlords, are being asked to do the hokey-cokey, I’m currently sending people notices who are terrified it’s an eviction, the government fails to collect basic data that would help them do the job we all put them in to do.

Does the Property118 and landlord community want to see basic key performance indicators used to hold the government to account for the decisions they make, and what should they be?

Thanks,

Paul
