Refurb top tips list for landlords
I’m trying to compile a list of top tips specifically aimed at landlords renovating BTL properties. So I’m focusing more on longevity and cost, rather than all the bells and whistles/creature comforts you find in most articles online. I’m also focusing on internal refurbs only, and not major structural issues or extensions.
So far, I’ve published the article Property Refurb – Top Landlord Tips, but I’m really keen for feedback and for more tips! I want this to eventually be a comprehensive list that we can all use.
“Everyone deserves a decent, safe, warm and comfortable place to live. Even if you specialise in social housing, as a good landlord, you should provide a home in which you would feel comfortable living.
Getting a distressed property up to such a standard can be a major headache if you have no guidelines and are unaware of the legal requirements.
To help soothe this headache, here are some important refurb tips that you should know, whether you’re an accidental landlord, a landlord with a handful of rental properties, or a big-time property investor.
Assuming you’ve already taken possession, changed the locks on the doors, and contacted your council about any major changes you plan to make in the property, you can begin striping out and preparing the property.”

Thanks for this Russ much appreciated. Really good and detailed.
What may be good to add in a process on how to deal with a big conversion where you require permission from the local authority and the building regs etc. Some landlord’s will just carry out the renovations without getting building regs involve and then when the council come to inspect they have to strip it all down again losing lots of money in the process.
I will be saving the page for future reference definitely.
