13 Fires a day reported!
There have been recent reports since Grenfell that faulty domestic appliances such as washing machines, fridges, tumble dryers etc. are the cause of some 13 fires a day. These statistics are causing concern.
What advice should we offer as landlords?
Some of the appliances would obviously be supplied by the Landlord and of course the tenants themselves supply their own appliances as well.
Many thanks
Stan

I responded to the Govt ‘consultation’ on Electrical Safety and the consideration of making 5 year Elec Safety Certs Mandatory.
My point was that a properties electrics are not going to suddenly deteriorate without interference or modification. There are already building regs in place to deal with Elec safety. The biggest point, I stressed, was the faulty appliances issue, as neither RCD nor Test certs protect against them – and there are an alarming number of them. Pity the Govt didn’t focus on the right issue.
I’ve certainly signed up to the NLA’s Electrical Products Recall email list.

I have posted on here in the past about the issue I am STILL having with Hotpoint and my faulty tumble drier (one of many, many thousands of affected appliances) which overheats (but only since I allowed them to carry out their suggested ‘modification’) and which they refuse to recall despite ongoing investigations into properties that have been destroyed and even lives that have been lost!
I would not ever permit a Hotpoint appliance of any kind (Indesit and Creda are the same beast under a different name) into any of our properties nor stand idly by while any of my friends or family members purchased one. They are unsafe death traps and their Customer care is NON EXISTENT!
