A warning from our accountants Pacific Ltd.
We have received reports of client’s receiving automated telephone messages which state that HMRC are filing a lawsuit against them. The communications may include an amount of money that is owed and encourage you to telephone a number to make a payment.
THESE TELEPHONE MESSAGES ARE A SCAM.
Please click here for a link to HMRC’s website regarding scams and bogus telephone calls.
HMRC and their debt collection team will never contact you with an automated telephone message. If you owe tax HMRC will issue you with reminder letters. If these letters are ignored an individual from HMRC will call you to discuss the position.
If you receive any communications regarding outstanding tax liabilities and you are unsure of the position, please contact us before taking any action.

Automated incoming messages are obviously spam or fraudulent.

I received an email today demanding that I pay a sum in excess of my annual turnover. I rushed to get my cheque book and locked it safely away in my firesafe.
