As landlords and letting agents gear up to say goodbye to Section 21 and hello to a tenant’s furry friends, property experts are offering advice in a free webinar to explain the complexities of the Renters’ Reform Bill.

Property tech firm Goodlord is organising the webinar that will have expert insights tomorrow (Tuesday 23 May) at 10am.

The ground-breaking legislation was first promised four years ago, and the first draft has finally been published.

What it means for agents and landlords

Ryan Heaven, a solicitor at Dutton Gregory, will be joining forces with Oli Sherlock, Goodlord’s director of insurance, who will give a breakdown on the bill and what it means for agents and landlords.

Plus, they’ll be taking questions from viewers so those taking part can get the answers they need.

Whether you’re a seasoned landlord or new to the industry, the webinar is the perfect opportunity to learn everything you need to know about the bill.

That will include the areas still to be decided, and what timelines all landlords should be planning for.

Bill looks set to abolish Section 21

The Renters’ Reform Bill looks set to abolish Section 21 and replace assured short-term tenancies with periodic tenancies.

That’s in addition to empowering tenants to keep pets in their rental homes.

The organisers say the webinar is designed with landlords in mind and will give them the tools they need to prepare for the changes and understand the opposition certain elements may face in the Parliamentary process.

‘A piece of legislation to get to grips with’

Goodlord’s director of insurance, Oli Sherlock, said: “After literally years of waiting, we finally have a piece of legislation to get to grips with.

“The industry will need to move quickly to ensure they’re ready for these changes when they become law.”

He added: “We hope this webinar will help agents and landlords understand what the bill contains, where the grey areas remain, and what they need to do now to prepare for the implementation of these once-in-a-generation changes.”

‘Huge amount of content for landlords and agents ‘

Ryan Heaven said: “This is a big, detailed piece of legislation. That means there’s a huge amount of content for landlords and agents to grapple with.

“I hope I can shine some light on some of the more obscure changes outlined in the Bill, as well as answer any questions on what these changes will mean for the industry on a practical level.”
