Hello, I have a flat that I am now selling to raise funds for other flats I rent. I should have completed it on the 12th September, but due to the delay in getting the management pack, that sale will probably go through the first week of October.
I have just received the service charge for the next period 29th September to 24th March. The due date is 13th October. Do I have to pay this as I won’t be the owner for the majority of the period?
Thank you,
Mel

I suggest you pay it.
That way there is no issue with the freeholder claiming there are arrears. Your solicitor should sort out an apportionment with the buyer.

You should pay it. This is typical. It will be reflected by a credit in your completion statement. Your solicitor will get this from the management company, but in case it is missed, provide details to him/her. The buyer will, in effect, pay you back, pro-rata.
