HM Land Registry has rolled out its Strategy 2025+ which promises to make buying and selling a home quicker.
In a process that has been plagued by delays and paperwork woes, the organisation says it will deliver better services.
It will also ‘unlock a faster, less stressful property market’.
Officials have focussed on home buyers, sellers and solicitors and responded to their complaints of the Land Registry’s service.
Iain Banfield, the organisation’s interim chief executive and Chief Land Registrar, said: “HM Land Registry is undergoing its most significant transformation in over 20 years to serve our customers better.
“Strategy 2025+ represents our commitment to unlock a better, faster and less stressful property market for everyone through improved digital services, enhanced expertise, and customer-centric approaches.”
He added: “This transformation will play a key role in supporting government ambitions – from building new homes and regenerating places, to unlocking clean energy infrastructure and transforming planning.”
User feedback has led to a raft of practical upgrades, including reducing common application errors, shaping new services and making its data more accessible.
The plan will revamp the entire transaction chain with smartphone apps and instant updates on where a case is.
HM Land Registry says the tweaks could shave weeks off timelines that currently stretch for months.
To help deliver the plan, more than 2,000 frontline staff have been recruited since the pandemic.
There’s also a training academy to sharpen skills to help deal with growing demands.
Every day, landlords who want to influence policy and share real-world experience add their voice here. Your perspective helps keep the debate balanced.

“HM Land Registry says the tweaks could shave weeks off timelines that currently stretch for months.”
Regrettably, the Land Registry used the wrong word, for “months” read “years”. Currently, the only action the Land Registry does promptly is to deposit the fee.
The Land Registry used to be the most efficient government quango, registering property by return post, now it must rank well down the list.
