National board erection specialists, Agency Express, are reporting a pick up in pace for the UK lettings market in May.

Month on month figures in the Agency Express lettings report show an increase of new listing ‘to let’ of 3.6% and listing ‘let’ of 2% nationwide.

However, over a rolling 3 month period ‘let’ board activity was actually down by 0.9%.

Stephen Watson, Managing Director of Agency Express, said:”This month we have seen some overall growth for the UK lettings market with some regional pockets recording record bests. As we move in to June which is traditionally a buoyant month we would expect to see a further increase in pace.”

For a more regional picture the report says the West Midlands had the biggest increase of 14.4% in new listings ‘to let’ and properties ‘let’ of 31%. Central England followed with new listings growing 12.6% and properties ‘let’ at 14%.

On the flip side the North West saw a decrease in new listing of 7.5% and London falling 11.3%.

From a landlord perspective it is not clear how the figures reflect the health of demand, increase in supply in the PRS or more tenants moving and voids.
