Have just listened to the Autumn budget statement.
Osborne basically said something like –
“It has been pointed out to me that the BTL tax relief changes I already announced to make it fairer for FTBs will not affect those who buy BTL with no mortgage, so I am upping stamp duty on all BTL by 3% as well, and will consult so it does not affect corporates”
Like some said previously on this discussion thread, it really does seem the real objective is to kill BTL by ordinary people and hand the private rented sector over to the corporates!
And no chance whatsoever now of a climb down on scrapping the 20% tax relief changes….

I wonder if there will be a threshold though. Maybe it is 3% even if the house costs £50,000…. I can’t remember exactly what he said and can’t be bothered to rewind it.

What he did not say, whether he is going to continue with his previous announcment in July 2015 but added that he will hit BTL with additional 3% Stamp Duty.
I know it is wishful thinking, but does anyone think that he may abandon his previous announcement and replace with new?

I am very surprised as I fully expected cuts to housing benefit? Have I missed something?
